The HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop campaign is inviting all students, schools and local councils in Malta and Gozo to propose a water harvesting project that can positively impact the community. Submission of the project proposals opens with immediate effect and will close off by Friday 18th December 2015.

Now in its third year, the HSBC Catch the Drop is the largest ever national environmental and educational campaign of its kind in Malta and aims to forge a blueprint for progress on sustainability of water as a resource. The programme aims to educate 50,000 students between 2013 and 2016. This year’s theme of the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop campaign is ‘Water Harvesting in Schools and Local Councils’.

Proposals submitted by individual students will be evaluated under the ‘School Outreach Programme’, while those by schools and local councils will be evaluated under the ‘Community Outreach Programme’.

Some of the winning projects already implemented under the three-year campaign range from use of urns that filter rainwater to installation of water-saving Hippo bags in a school’s flushing system. So this is a great opportunity to have your water conservation ideas gain recognition, once selected.

The HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop campaign recently held a workshop for Catch the Drop link teachers from every primary and secondary school in the country. The workshop helped the teachers to understand how their students can submit an award-winning proposal. A workshop for local councils will be held separately.

In scholastic year 2013-14, the campaign received a total of 30 proposals, out of which 21 secured grants by the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop campaign. In 2014-15, a total of 23 projects from schools and three from local councils were selected for implementation.

Since its inception in 2013 and over two scholastic years, the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop has held 476 presentations, 41 theatre shows, 117 Sponge Bob and Frozen shows, 15 drama unit shows, and 32 site visits. These have touched 40,892 students and have had the participation of 350 staff volunteers from HSBC.
