The HSBC UK Contact Centre Malta (HBEU) in Swatar celebrated the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ in aid of UK-based Macmillan Cancer Support charity and raised a total of €1,650 in less than seven hours.
Staff participated in the event with great enthusiasm and brought in more than 50 types of cakes, muffins, ftiras, and delicacies. A variety of fun activities such as ‘Baked or Faked’, ‘Spot the Cake’, a pie throwing contest, and an Indian head massage by Essence of Beauty further sweetened the charity drive.
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. Last year alone, the charity raised £25 million. While the Macmillan doesn’t have a registered presence in Malta, the support network is often the first point of recommendation of doctors in Malta to cancer patients and their families.
“The eagerness of staff to raise funds for the cancer support group is impressive. Even more remarkable is the fact that, despite having a day off, some of the staff members came to the office to participate. This spirit to join the fight against a common cause has become a hallmark of the team at HSBC UK Contact Centre Malta. It continually inspires each of us,” said Joseanne Tanti Agbaje from HBEU’s people experience team.
The HSBC UK Contact Centre Malta regularly organises various fundraising and awareness activities to support the society it operates in, while its staff frequently volunteer in the community. In July, the Contact Centre raised more than €2,000 for Victim Support Malta (VSM).
