Pianist Ruya Taner performs West meets East

ruya_taner2 high resTeatru Manoel presents the next in the ‘Wednesdays at the Manoel’ series with a great recital by Turkish pianist Ruya Taner on 1st April 2015 at 8pm.

Entitled “West meets East” the recital features music by Schumann, Liszt, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Kodaly and Liapunouv as well as premieres of music by Ince and Akdil.
Acknowledged as one of the Turkey´s new generation of leading concert pianists, Ruya Taner, originally from the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, has, since her debut at The Wigmore Hall in London, toured extensively to over 55 countries in Europe, USA, Asia and the Gulf region.
Ruya trained at Ankara State Conservatoire and at the age of 11, the Highly Gifted Children Act enabled Taner to gain a state scholarship to London, where she studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, gaining both degrees from AGSM and ARCM from The Royal College of Music and the rarely given Concert Recital Diploma.
She has also been a prize winner of many national festivals around the United Kingdom and has performed with the leading State and private orchestras in Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Bursa, Adana and Mersin, The Turkish Armed Forces Band orchestra in Turkey, MAV Orchestra in Hungary, Philharmonic orchestras in Belgium, Ukraine, Sarajevo, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Belarus, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan and The Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra. Her performances abroad have been broadcasted on national radio and television in Northern Cyprus, Italy, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
The full programme of the Wed 1st April recital includes Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in C (‘Eleonorem Sonate’), Schumann/F. Liszt’s Widmung, Liszt’s Un sospiro in D flat major from Grande études de concert No. 3, the premiere of Kamran Ince’s Gates, Debussy’s Reflets dans l’eau for piano, Sayram Akdil’s Piano piece Nr 6 (Malta Premiere), Chopin’s Fantasy İmpromptu, Liapunouv’s Lesginka in B minor, No.10 and Kodaly’s Dances of Marosszék.
