The Sovereign Art Foundation is proud to announce the launch of the 2nd Sovereign Art Foundation Students Prize in Malta and Gozo with its first exhibition of student works in Valletta at Palazzo Ferreria, Republic Street today, which opened on Monday 11 March.

The Students’ Prize aims to celebrate the importance of art in the education system and recognises the quality of work which can be produced by local students. Schools were invited to participate by nominating and submitting five of the best artworks produced by their students. Of these, 12 pieces have been shortlisted and three winners will be chosen. The first-place winner will be chosen by a panel of judges and the second and third place winners will be chosen by public vote both online and at the exhibitions. First, second and third place artists will win monetary prizes for themselves and for their schools.

“Sovereign Trust in Malta is a proud supporter of The Sovereign Art Foundation. I am delighted that we have been entrusted again with managing the Schools Art Prize for Malta and Gozo,” said Sovereign Trust managing director Stephen Griffiths. “We believe that art plays a vital role in fostering creativity and building confidence within young adults. The Foundation aims to use the prize to encourage artistic talent and showcase the efforts of those talented students in Malta and Gozo both here and internationally. We are very pleased to have received the support of the Ministry for Education and Employment and the Ministry for the Family and Social responsibility as well as by the many schools involved and our generous sponsors. This year’s prize has grown in terms of the number of entries and students involved. The work is outstanding and deserves to be seen by a wide audience”

Following the exhibition in Valletta the students’ work will be exhibited at The Carob Tree at Spinola Park in St. Julian’s from Monday 18 March to Sunday 24 March and then will travel to Gozo where it will be featured at The Duke Shopping Mall, Victoria from 25 March until Saturday 30 March.
